TOY DESIGN-CUSTOM ACTION FIGURES

CHECK OUT ALL OF MY CUSTOM MEGO STYLE FIGURES

Let it be know, I am a HUUUUUGE Toy Nut! That's right, little plastic Men and Women adorn shelving units, display in cabinets, and just hang out just about anywhere I have a centimeter of free space in my studio, much to my girlfriends chagrin.  That being said, I'd like to introduce you to my work in the field of toy design, specifically action figure design done in that classic Mego style. For those not in the know, Mego is my favorite Toy manufacturer of Yesteryear. Many of the now defunct companies toys (R.I.P) were action figures that stood 8" tall, were fully pose-able, and featured real cloth like costumes. Also featured were various removable accessories, many of which seemed to go missing, like Hulk's infamous purple pants for example...

Since Mego's demise in 1983' hardcore Mego fans have found ways to continue where the company left off. The most popular means? Easily the art of customizing. Mego made a literal who's who of action figures ranging from comic book superheroes (Marvel, DC), to stars of your favorite TV shows (C.H.I.P.S, The Waltons, Dukes of Hazzard, Star Trek, and Planet Of The Apes, to name a few). But fans still wanted more. Many comic book characters were never immortalized in plastic, leaving fans longing for His or Her dream figure to be happily displayed on store shelves. And THAT is were customizing enters the picture...

I literally stumbled on to customizing accidentally. After searching Ebay for the Mego figures I lost over the years I would place bids on figures that were naked, and partially clothed. These figures tend to be much cheaper, but you are left with the task of tracking down the remaining pieces to complete your figures uniform. This led to even more Ebay trolling for the vintage parts. From Batman heads, to Aquaman bodysuits Ebay had what you were looking for. The only problem being vintage parts tend to be costly. Paying $20 for a single boot seemed crazy so i looked elsewhere to obtain the missing parts I needed.

It took a little digging, but the day came when i made a hit! A guy calling himself, Doctor Mego had a little website that produced reproduction/replacement parts for just about any Mego figure You could think of. I quickly snatched up belts, gloves, heads, capes, boots and more for a fraction of the Ebay cost.
